Guard Your Borders

You face spiritual warfare every day. Every thought that you think, what you believe through every situation you face, what comes out of your mouth, and all of the behavioral choices that you make are the battles that you encounter.

Every daily situation presents you with a choice to agree with God’s Word and reflect the character and behaviors of Christ Jesus or submit to your flesh and give in to the emotions that direct you away from biblical actions. When you seek to understand spiritual things, it is helpful to look at mirror images in the natural.

Spiritual battles in your personal life can be compared to earthly wars. When a country goes to war the lifestyle of the people is affected. During World War II people gave up their jobs and women left their homes to work in factories.

The nation was preparing, training, and aiding in the combat effort. The residents were aware of potential invasions or attacks. Their lives were altered by the actions they had to take during a blackout; their daily routines changed, and even guards were posted at their national borders.
Likewise, you are to be aware and cautious.

Matthew 10:16 says, “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.”

You live in a fallen world. The Word is your training manual and learning how to apply healthy thinking, speech patterns, life, and relationship skills is where you walk out the principles in the Bible. It must become part of your daily routine to guard your borders.

Your borders are your thoughts – what you think, believe, and expect, your mouth – what comes out of it, your ears and eyes – what you allow in to feed your mind thoughts and beliefs that either agree with God or are contrary to God.

In Zechariah 9:8 it says, “But I will encamp at my temple to guard it against marauding forces. Never again will an oppressor overrun my people, for now I am keeping watch.”

You are the temple of the Holy Spirit; God dwells in you. You must guard your temple to everything that seeks to pollute and corrupt it and move it from Truth. If you choose obedience to Christ, guarding your borders is adopting a spiritual wartime lifestyle. You must make it a primary focus to prepare and train. You must learn to use the weapons God provides and be alert to enemy invasion. You must post guards at the borders of your body, soul, spirit, heart, mind, and tongue.

You also need to guard the borders of your property, homes, communities, and churches. What enters will either urge you toward holiness or direct you to carnality and the world. If you use the weapons God gave you through prayer, worship, and the application of the Word, you can place angelic guards around everything and everyone in your life. The lifestyle that you adopt must reflect that you are in a real war.

The objective of personal spiritual warfare isn’t just to win a few isolated battles, but to fight until you overcome and Jesus returns. But God doesn’t expect you to overcome the enemy in your own strength.

God expects you to fight under His leadership and guidance, by His authority and power. “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty. …” (Zachariah 4:6)

You must remember it is in Him that your victory rests.“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57)
