3 Weapons of Daily Personal Warfare – Part 2: Humility

walk_humbly_mainimageYour first weapon of daily personal warfare was obedience. Obedience is when you choose God and align yourself with His Word and character in every thought, speech pattern, and behavior so that you feed the spiritual man and kill the carnal within you on a daily basis.

Obedience produces good fruit; fruit that brings forth Christ’s character in you and prepares you to rule and reign with Jesus. Humility is your second weapon of warfare. You must walk humbly before your God. Satan hates humility and is appalled when you kneel before God in a surrendering of your soul. Jesus was your example of humility. He was confident and knew who He was in God.

Jesus walked in perfect obedience and was willing to humble himself before God and man. Jesus said in John 5:19, “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.” He was willing to humble Himself; He laid down everything for the will of God so that you could be made righteous.

God calls your righteousness “dirty rags.” If you walk in your own righteousness you are unacceptable to God. You must stand on the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Satan loves to point out your unrighteousness because he is the “accuser of the brethren.” The Scripture says,
“Agree with your adversary quickly…”
Matthew 5:25 (NKJV)

This doesn’t mean obey the devil. It means there is a morsel of truth in Satan’s accusations. So when he accuses you, readily agree with him, because he is right. Your righteousness is unacceptable to God, but gratefully your righteousness is not what makes you holy. It is what the scripture says in 2 Corinthians 5:21, “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” You are righteous because of what Jesus did.

Now walking out holiness is about humbling yourself to Him, and choosing to obey Him because of your love for Him. When Satan throws your sins in your face to haunt you, you should readily agree in humility and repentance and then proclaim your righteousness through Christ. Now Satan has nothing to use against you. You are clean, forgiven, and clothed in God’s righteousness. You are not standing on your own righteousness; instead Christ Himself is your righteousness.

The more you recognize that Jesus Christ alone is your righteousness, the less the adversary can assault you in your failings. Agree with the adversary about the condition of your flesh because you have been given a new nature made in the image of Christ. (Ephesians 4:24)

You must also allow God to search you regularly and submit yourself to Him. You cannot make excuses for your sins and failures. Jesus is your perfect shelter of grace, enabling you to look honestly at yourself. Your daily humility is walked out when you align every thought pattern, core belief, attitude, and motive with the Bible.

In every daily challenge, offense, rejection, and struggle you can either choose to fix your eyes on the problem and agree with your life experience, or you can choose to humble yourself and do as instructed in the Bible. “Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5) Humility is a minute by minute choice to die to yourself and let Jesus be reflected through you.

As you embark in aggressive spiritual warfare, you must realize that many of your battles are the consequences of your own actions, don’t blame everything on Satan. To war effectively, you must separate the things of the flesh from the things of the enemy. You need to recognize that the immediate source of many problems is not demonic. Rather, they come from your carnal or flesh nature, and the choices that you make. The essence of your carnal nature, and all of nature itself, is dust.
In Genesis 3:19 (NIV) God says of man, “For dust you are and to dust you will return.”

When God cast judgment on Satan He said, “Cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life.”
Genesis 3:14 (NIV)

The connection here is the devil feeds upon your earthly, carnal nature. Satan has a feast on all that you withhold from God. You cannot afford to have areas in your attitudes, thought patterns, or behaviors that are not submitted to God. Therefore judge and discern the difference between your flesh and the demonic. You choose to agree with God that your righteousness is unacceptable, and walk humbly in Christ’s righteousness.

Humility is a lifestyle of repentance. You face each day with a humble heart and are teachable, correctable, and quick to change your mind to agree with God’s principles and Truth. You must allow God to search and humble you. If you walk in humility your first weapon of warfare is in place. Then you grow in the knowledge of His Word and the authority that He has given to you. Now you can fight boldly and not faint in fear.

Understanding your authority is essential. You are not to be self-assured, but to be God-assured. When you are walking in humility you know where your power and strength come from. You are confident in your spiritual authority; God’s peace will be established in all areas that were once full of conflict and oppression.
” I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
